چکیده

The present work presents the potential of different source waters to form several classes of emerging disinfection byproducts (DBPs), i.e., haloacetaldehydes and iodinecontaining DBPs, which have been scarcely investigated to date. To study this, laboratory controlled chlorination and chloramination reactions were performed with different source waters (in terms of natural organic matter and bromide and iodide content). As expected, the formation of iodo-DBPs (iodo-trihalomethanes, iodo-haloacetic acids, and iodoacetaldehyde) was enhanced in the presence of monochloramine. Overall, iodo-trihalomethanes were the iodo-DBPs that contributed most to total iodo-DBP concentrations. Dihaloacetaldehydes were the main haloacetaldehydes formed under both chlorination and chloramination treatments.

Mutagenicity and disinfection by-products in surface drinking water disinfected with peracetic acid.

The aims of this research were to study the influence of peracetic acid (PAA) on the formation of mutagens in surface waters used for human consumption and to assess its potential application for the disinfection of drinking water. The results obtained using PAA were compared to those found with sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) and chlorine dioxide (ClO2). The Ames test, root anaphase aberration ass...

Formation of iodo-trihalomethanes, iodo-haloacetic acids, and haloacetaldehydes during chlorination and chloramination of iodine containing waters in laboratory controlled reactions.

Iodine containing disinfection by-products (I-DBPs) and haloacetaldehydes (HALs) are emerging disinfection by-product (DBP) classes of concern. The former due to its increased potential toxicity and the latter because it was found to be the third most relevant DBP class in mass in a U.S. nationwide drinking water study. These DBP classes have been scarcely investigated, and this work was perfor...

Nano-silver in drinking water and drinking water sources: stability and influences on disinfection by-product formation

Nano-silver is increasingly used in consumer products from washing machines and refrigerators to devices marketed for the disinfection of drinking water or recreational water. The nano-silver in these products may be released, ending up in surface water bodies which may be used as drinking water sources. Little information is available about the stability of the nano-silver in sources of drinki...

Disinfectant decay and disinfection by-products formation model development: chlorination and ozonation by-products.

Comprehensive disinfectant decay and disinfection by-product formation (D/DBP) models in chlorination and ozonation were developed to apply to various types of raw and treated waters. Comparison of several types of models, such as empirical power function models and empirical kinetic models, was provided in order to choose more robust and accurate models for the D/DBP simulations. An empirical ...

Effect of Disinfection on the Surface Roughness of Dental Casts Retrieved from Addition Silicone Impressions

Background and aim: Changes in the physical properties of casts retrieved from disinfected impressions are a common problem in the fabrication of dental prostheses. However, there are limited data available about the effect of disinfecting solutions on the surface roughness of casts. This study aimed to assess the surface roughness of casts retrieved from addition silicone impressions disinfect...
